Matt is a designer at Wirth Research, who supply the Marussia Virgin Racing team with their F1 cars and on Sunday he RAN the half marathon at Silverstone. wooooo hoooo well done Matt for completing your first half marathon! 😀
A few years ago he suffered a debilitating episode of Transverse Myelitis, which left him paralysed from the chest down within 20 minutes of falling ill. Although he regained some use of his arms and legs, Matt was unable to carry on working as a composite layer-upper so went back to uni to retrain and study engineering. This is where I met him through Jay as they were in the same academic year, and we’ve been friends since.
Matt will hate this blog post and he’ll hate a previous one I wrote about him (Inspiration) as he’s just Matt. But at the end of the day, he doesn’t have full use of his hands and feet and it is amazing that he has spent the past 9 months training to do a half marathon (on top of an F1 job and looking after his gorgeous family)! As I put in my previous post, I’m a perfectly healthy 25 year old and I could not do it.
So if you’ve got a couple of quid spare please sponsor him as he’s running to raise money for the Spinal Injuries Association. If not don’t worry but I’d love it if you could show your support by leaving a comment for him 😀
